Spiral computed tomography

Spiral computed tomography (CT) scan may prove to be a significant advance for diagnosing kidney stones.

It can measure the density of the stones and differentiate between the follow group.

1. Dense opaque (Calcium oxalate, Brushite, Calcium apatite)
2. Moderate opaque (
Struvite, Cystine)
3. Non opaque -radiolucent (
Uric acid, Xanthine, 2,8-dihydroxyadenine )
